Allow me to introduce José Duarte: the Man Who Brought in BricsCAD at Noraqua. He’s a Civil Engineer at Noraqua and a specialist in hydraulic design. We spoke to him to find out how BricsCAD helped Noraqua handle large, .dwg files.
What is Noraqua?
Well, it might not be the most glamorous company in the world, but what they do is really quite interesting and very technical. Noraqua is an engineering company, specializing in hydraulic related services; sewage networks, stormwater networks, pumping stations, water reservoirs, and irrigation networks.
BricsCAD can handle large .dwg files
I needed a faster software to do the sizing and ever since I’ve been using BricsCAD.
José first started using BricsCAD because he needed a faster and more stable software. Noraqua works on large .dwg drawing files, for airports and highways. Some of these are over 100MB in size! Before BricsCAD his software crashed frequently and was slow. When he converted to BricsCAD he found that his workflow was much faster.
It [BricsCAD] does not crash and that’s one thing that we value very much.
He was delighted to discover that he could add large images and external references to the drawings and even under this pressure, BricsCAD was still lightning fast. He noted how quickly BricsCAD could perform during zoom, move, copy and rotate commands, in comparison to the software he had used previously. BricsCAD could do all this even when handling large blocks and external references.
BricsCAD is great for plug-ins
At Noraqua both the designers and engineers use CAD every day.
They have built a large number of their own LISP and VB (Visual Basic) plug-ins. These are mostly used by the Engineers. The designers then use BricsCAD’s great selection of 2D drafting tools to finish the .dwg file to make it presentable to the client.
BricsCAD is native .dwg
.dwg the file type that Noraqua provides to the clients, so the software they use needs to be fully .dwg compatible. As we all know. BricsCAD is .dwg native.
Converting to BricsCAD
A few years ago we made the decision to install BricsCAD in everyone’s computer. Yes it was very easy. It took one day.
José said he thinks that if people are already familiar with CAD software they can adapt easily to BricsCAD.
He remarked that, after 1 or 2 days, his colleagues were able to work just as well with BricsCAD as they had with their previous software and, as the days go by, they get faster because “BricsCAD is a faster software”.
